Business Access to Regulated Information

How to Apply

Professionals in financial services, collections, insurance, law enforcement and other industries can request access to data sources not available to general public. Access to better data can significantly increase the success rate of skip tracing, fraud prevention and help you make better decisions in hiring and tenant screening. Restricted data contains non-public personal information regulated by Federal and State privacy acts (FCRA, GLBA, DPPA, etc.) and has limited permissible use.
  1. Create Business Account
    • Designate an Account Administrator, who will be responsible for managing users and billing details.
    • The Administrator needs to sign-up for a Business Account online.
    • If you already have SearchBug account, please log in to see applicable instructions.

  2. Submit Application and Supporting Documentation
    1. Fill out online application form.
    2. Print and sign the application form and the service agreement.
    3. Collect supporting documentation.
    4. Fax your application package to SearchBug.

  3. We Verify Your Business
    • Credentialing includes review the submitted information and a site survey.
    • We will contact you to schedule site survey and notify about the approval results.
    • The processing / application fee is $99.00 .
    • The process usually takes 5 to 7 days.

  4. Obtain Access to Restricted Data

Exception List

SearchBug does NOT allow access to regulated consumer information to the following companies:
  • Credit or Financial Repair or Counseling (unless for non-profit, housing counseling or registered securities broker)
  • Lawyers or Law Firms (unless sole practice is collections or those filing consumer bankruptcies or for employment)
  • News Agencies or Journalists (unless sole use is for employment purposes or the review of a subscriber's credit and an individual certification of permissible purpose is provided each time a report is requested)
  • Pawn Shop (unless business is reputable and in a secure and safe location)
  • Dance Studio, Check Cashing, Spiritual, Tattoo, Health, Book Club, Adult, Dating, Massage Service
  • Other companies that are
    1. not in the traditional financial services industry;
    2. not routinely needing consumer reports in the ordinary course of business;
    3. providing reports directly to consumers;
    4. with questionable reputations or ethical natures or no legitimate need for consumer reports;
    5. have officers or employees involved in credit fraud or other unethical business practices;
    6. identified by a credit bureau or data repository as restricted.
